About Designwise

Designwise, Inc. has been in business since 1981, providing a variety of residential and commercial design services.  Some as simple as re-arranging furniture in a matter of hours, to multimillion dollar projects that take years of planning and construction.

After graduating from the Artisan School of Interior Design, Cricket began her design career working for painting contractors, where she learned the tricks of the trades painting houses and hanging wallpaper.  Working on a wide variety of projects, she learned her way around the world of re-modeling and construction.  Here she developed a keen understanding of color and context, as well as a reputation for her talent.  Soon she started her own business in Honolulu, Designwise, Inc.  Much of her design strategy is counterintuitive, ultimately giving the customer a one-of-a-kind design.  Regarding the saying “think outside the box”, her quick-witted response is, “What? There’s a box?”  Cricket attributes much of her style and use of common things in uncommon ways to her teacher, mentor and friend, well-known Honolulu designer Ginny Detweiler.

After four successful years in Honolulu, a career and educational opportunity lured her to the mainland in 1985. The next 22 years gave her well-rounded knowledge and experience with the permanent fixtures of a house like interior finishes, plumbing, lighting, cabinetry, installations, project oversight, and the overall process of construction from design to completion.  Over the years, her industry contacts and reputation led to some of her more well-known clients, including Hawaii 5-0’s Jack Lord, First Wives Club director Hugh Wilson, Beatle George Harrison and Virginia State Senator Emily Couric.  To check out what some of our customers think about us, click on the “clients” link.

After more than twenty years on the mainland, Cricket returned to Honolulu in 2007 and considered herself temporarily retired. However, once word spread of her return, previous customers have sought her out and she is now only semi-retired.  The current state of the economy probably puts hiring an interior designer on the bottom of most everyone’s list.  People are stressed and worried about the future, but this is the perfect time to “refresh” a room for very little (if any) money.  It provides a brand new look and a visually pleasing space which releases those wonderful feel-good endorphins.  Everybody deserves at least one room like this in their home, so until things start looking up, Designwise is offering design services based on the project and ability to pay.
